Welcome!

Letter from the Director

Thank you for your interest in the La Paz Rural Ethnoeducational Institution. Your visit brings joy and hope to our valuable aid and education project for the Wayúu children of the La Paz district, in the department of La Guajira, Colombia.

Within those great purposes of God in the life of the human being, I returned to the land of my ancestors by maternal line - to Ranchería La Paz; today, already converted into a township.

“Instruct the child in his way, and even when he is old he will not depart from it”

~ Prov. 22: 6

Our History

The Indigenous Community of La Paz ...

It is a wayúu indigenous settlement that dates back to the early 1970's, located in the northeastern peninsula of Colombia, in a desertic, yet rural area in the municipality of Manaure, La Guajira, Colombia. The URIANA clan has settlement and legitimacy on the territory of La Paz, being born into it by maternal lineage.

In 1980, CECILIA LINDAO URIANA, the artifice and pioneer of this great community project, was called to the great commission, and in an example of obedience to God, abandoned her studies in Law and moved to the land of her ancestors, where her mother Petronila Uriana, matriarch of the region and the Uriana clan.
